International Press Association has entered the world of social networking by joining the millions of other individuals, groups and companies on Facebook. IPA has been active on YouTube for the past year and also has a small presense on MySpace, but the Facebook program is more ambitious then the others.

You can now join our Facebook Fan Page with close to 800 members there and also join our IPA Facebook Group which now has close to 500 members. We ask all of our members to join both because the Fan Page and the Group Page have different features and benefits. Joining both will assure our members the ability to hear the latest breaking updates and messages and will also network both our IPA paid members and our Facebook IPA members in one larger and more powerful network then before.

Having larger numbers of professionals in the photographic and journalistic areas means we have more power when negotiating special benefits and discounts for our members.

There are a number of key differences from our Facebook only members and our IPA members. IPA members are entitled to the IPA press identification and verification program and they also have their portfolios and profiles on our web site. Facebook members have neither, but will still be able to network with other members of the independent media which we hope to bring together on Facebook.
